Secondary schools became a particular site of interest for documentary filmmakers after the Second World War. Schools were used for pieces on social and political commentary, producing public service films about the changing education system, as well as for capturing particular subjects, projects, or events linked to community life. Some schools even made their own films about activities in the playground and classroom. Over the course of our research we’ve come across various films depicting everyday life in UK schools in the period since 1945. We’ve gathered some of them here, and provided background information available about the films.
